A Recycling Program Update

A Recycling Program Update

Our Kitchen Waste TerraCycle box is officially full! We've been thrilled to see your excitement about the TerraCycle program and love providing a better way to dispose of things like plastic clamshells (sadly not accepted in the municipal recycling bins), milk cartons, cookie trays, frozen veggie bags, and all that other waste that otherwise ends up in the trash (but doesn't have to).

As our initial grant-funded boxes fill up and we apply what we've learned from our pilot program, we are expanding the service to our delivery customers as well as implementing pricing based on volume.

For any items not labeled "free" on the TerraCycle list, the cost is $0.05 per cubic inch. That's between $20 and $30 for a standard shoe box and is based on the cost of the large TerraCycle boxes, which range from around $230 to $380 each.

You can continue dropping your items off in person, or you can order Recycling Pickup on our website and leave your items out on delivery day. Pack your "paid" items in a box and calculate the volume in cubic inches (length x width x height), then enter the volume in the "Quantity" field when you order. Be sure to pack it nice and tight to get the most for your money! If you have additional items that are part of the free programs, you can leave those out for us to pick up as well.

Taking on TerraCycle as a group makes it more affordable and accessible as we can take advantage of the best rates on larger and more varied boxes than would be reasonable for most single households. Thank you for all of the items you've brought in so far, and we hope you'll be able to support this effort to keep it going!
