Support the Sustainability Advisory Board

For years, the Topeka Sustainability Advisory Board has recommended that the City hire a Sustainability Coordinator. Many other cities—including smaller ones like Salina—have a position like this. Someone designated to help set and work toward sustainability goals, bring together department heads for collaboration, and lend an environmental perspective to matters the City is considering. Topeka has not made this investment. Meanwhile, the need to approach decisions with a sustainability lens is becoming more important each year.

If you would like to tell the City Council you support sustainability efforts in Topeka—particularly hiring a Sustainability Coordinator—please consider filling out our letter of support. You can bring the printed letter into the shop or email it to us (info@fullcirclesustainability.org), and we will get it to the Sustainability Advisory Board to present with its annual report at the April 15th City Council meeting.

Please also consider attending the April 15th meeting in person. It will be at 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 214 E. 8th St. (the municipal court building/TPAC). The TSAB will present near the beginning of the meeting, and you can leave afterward. Just stand when asked, and wear green (if you have it) to show your support for sustainability efforts in Topeka!

As individuals, it can feel like so many things are out of our control. Taking small actions like this to influence local government is a way to help create the change you want to see. We may all be small fish, but if we swim together in the small pond of Topeka, we can change the current!
