Make a Simple Silverware Pouch
We all hate plastic forks, right? In addition to the colossal waste of turning petroleum into a little plastic stabber that you use to eat five bites of cake and then throw away, the dumb things are weak and bend and break and clutter up your kitchen drawers as they grow in supply every time you get takeout.
This world has a bad plastic silverware habit, and we’ve got to break it!
You can do your part by taking your own silverware with you. I’ve been toting mine around in a little ziplock baggie, and that works great. But I’ve been feeling crafty lately and had some scraps of fabric that struck me as just right for making a cuter cutlery caddy.
The first one I improvised, and it turned out pretty well. But I wanted to try another style—and, frankly, be able to share the idea in a blog post without writing up instructions of my own—so I searched “travel cutlery pouch” online for some inspiration. These two links take you to ones I tried. Both were easy tutorials to follow and simple projects to sew, though I particularly liked the first one.
Whether you make one of these pouches or just stick your silverware in a bag, this is the perfect time to start a habit of bringing your own eatingware. Make a pledge this picnic season to give up those awful plastic forks for good!
