Styrofoam
Styrofoam
Styrofoam is difficult to recycle, though not impossible. (See our blog post for details and a video on how styrofoam recycling works and why it's not more common.) Since there aren't many convenient outlets for it, it's best to avoid styrofoam completely. If there's a product you love that you can't get any other way, contact the seller and ask them to change their packaging. Your letter or conversation alone may not make the difference, but if enough consumers speak up, businesses will start to listen!
Large-Particle Styrofoam
This is the big, puffy kind you find around TVs. Recycle at:
-
Atlas Molded Products/ACH Foam Technologies in Kansas City (1400 N 3rd St, Kansas City, KS 66101) (free drop-off during set hours)
- Full Circle Sustainability (free drop-off during the month of January; not accepted February-December)
Molded Styrofoam
This is the material used in Sonic cups, takeout containers, and packing peanuts. Recycle at Full Circle Sustainability as part of the paid TerraCycle program.
