Oats - Rolled (GF)
Azure Standard
These rolled oats (also known as "old fashioned oats") are gluten-free and certified organic.
Oats are higher in protein than most other grains and full of fiber as well as vitamins and minerals, including manganese, phosphorus, copper, vitamin B1 (thiamine), iron, selenium, magnesium, and zinc. They’re also the only dietary source of avenanthramides, a type of antioxidant which may help prevent heart disease.
Of course these oats are good for oatmeal, but they have so many other uses as well! Try them in Irish soda bread, apple and peach crisps and crumbles, granola, muffins, and cookies—especially quick, easy no-bake cookies. You can also add them to meatballs, meatloaf, or stuffed peppers as an inexpensive and nutritious way to “stretch” the meat a bit. And don’t limit yourself to cooking or baking, either—you can even put them in face scrubs or spa masks!
Rolled oats cook in about 15 minutes. Bring 2 cups water and ¼ tsp. salt to a boil. Add 1 cup oats. Cover and simmer for about 15 min., stirring occasionally, until oats achieve the desired texture. Remove from heat, cover, and let stand before serving.
