Chicken - Whole or Half
Chicken - Whole or Half
The classic chicken! A 4+ lb. whole or 2.5+ lb. half chicken from Piccalilli Farm. Delicious fried, roasted, broasted, braised, poached, grilled, broiled, or sautéed. All chicken products come frozen in shrink-wrapped packages. A whole chicken will feed 4-6 people.
*If your delivery order contains meat and you won't be home to receive it, please leave out a cooler; otherwise we cannot leave your order.* We will deliver Thursday evening, between 5:00-8:30 p.m.
Piccalilli Farm raises their chicken on fresh pasture with non-gmo feed rations. This technique is not only great for the chickens, but it also helps increase the fertility and organic matter of Piccalilli’s pasture soils through the controlled spreading of the chickens' highly enriching manure as they move around the field.
Utilizing whole and half chickens is one of the most sustainable and ethical ways to utilize the animal. Learning how to piece a whole chicken can be simple and rewarding, as well as a way to connect to our roots. Generations before us relied on the skill.
Here's a quick video simplifying the process of piecing out a chicken, or you can read more detail about the process from our friend and ethical meat advocate, Meredith Leigh. A former vegan, Meredith wrote The Ethical Meat Handbook, a wonderful read.
